Retro point-and-click adventure
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is a premium adventure experience from LucasArts, serving as the video game adaptation of the 1989 film of the same name. This point-and-click game closely follows that of the movie, and more. Explore dozens of real-world locations beyond those featured in the movie, most of them rendered in its retro-style 3D design.
With interactive puzzles everywhere and a healthy mix of action and fast-paced adventure, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is just as fun as it was when it first hit the shelves decades ago. Also, check out UnderGrav and Amanda the Adventurer.
Help Indy find the Holy Grail
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was originally released in 1989, coinciding with the film. This re-release, however, makes the game compatible with modern systems. It retains the original art style but the graphics are remastered to create crisper, more vivid visuals. It also expands the soundtrack, featuring over 100 sound effects on top of the official movie soundtrack. Together, the game offers a fun, immersive experience.
For those unfamiliar with the original, this follows Indiana Jones as he tries to locate the Holy Grail, as well as his father, who first went to search for the artifact. You travel around the world, solving puzzles and fighting foes along the way. The game’s IQ, or Indy Quotient, is a particularly challenging aspect. This scores your performance based on how you achieve objectives and solve challenges.
Fans of the franchise might find the game not as faithful to the source as they would’ve liked. Certain key parts of the movie, such as Sallah’s character, the Venice water chase, and the Brotherhood of the Grail, are not included in the game. Also, achieving the maximum IQ score requires a specific set of achievements, leaving the game with almost zero replayability value.
A classic, like its movie namesake
In the same way that the Indiana Jones film is considered a classic, the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade video game is also considered a timeless entry. By capturing the fast-paced adventure that the movie offers, plus a unique challenge with the IQ system, this is something that gamers should check out. Sure, the graphics are dated, and the movie is not fully captured, but these are minor compromises.
