Exploration adventure games
Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure is a paid single-player adventure game developed by Snowcastle Games. This game will take you to a fantasy world populated by distinctive and strange wildlife. Your goal is to settle down in it by building your home and exploring your surroundings.
Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure is set in the universe of the Earthlock RPGs. It took inspiration from games such as Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. With this, you can expect compelling exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and customization systems. You can even befriend local wildlife and use their unique abilities to access new areas.
What is Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure?
Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure is a spin-off chapter in Snowcastle’s Earthlock series. However, unlike the RPG franchise, it does not focus on action and turn-based combat. Rather, it looks to offer moments of peace and serenity. As mentioned, it puts you on a fantasy island filled with strange wildlife and unique architecture. Your goal is to turn it into your very own haven by building your home.
To do that, you will harvest materials using tools and your workshop. You will also bond with the strange creature to harness their unique abilities. Like a typical town-building game, you will also farm your land to get rewards. The game isn’t all about relaxing as there will also be monsters you need to keep at bay. With this, remember to craft weapons in addition to farming tools.
However, despite its sandbox nature, the game can only be played solo for now. The game also has no tutorial to speak of, so you will have to go through the gameplay on your own. Players will also find the starting inventory a little limited. What’s worse is that the building mechanics are massively obtuse that it takes about 50 mouse clicks to build a single structure.
Should you play it?
All in all, Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure is a promising game that takes a new spin on the popular JRPG. It offers an open-world map that you can explore with lots of creatures you can interact with and tame. However, the game is far from perfect as there are tons of issues with it. Still, it is worth a try if you are into exploration and town-building games.
