Tweet directly from the Firefox address bar

HootBar is a simple Firefox add-on for Twitter that allows you to tweet URLs and more, directly from your Firefox address bar.

As an add-on, HootBar’s configuration options are pretty simple. You can choose to open your Twitter account after posting, and toggle pre-tweeting confirmation. There’s also an option to change the text that automatically appears when you tweet a URL, and you can hide/unhide the HootBar button to make it even more discreet.

Surprisingly, for such a simple app, HootBar supports multiple accounts and has some nice features. You can specify what account you want to post to by typing –@account_name at the end of the tweet, and by hovering over the post button you can see how many characters you have left.

It goes without saying that HootBar lets you tweet anything you post to the address bar, and not just the URL you are browsing. In all, it’s a nice add-on for Firefox, and if you keep your tweeting simple, it could be just the Twitter app you are looking for.

For simple tweets right from the address bar, HootBar is a slick little app!

The Twitterbar extension allows you to post directly to your Twitter account from the Firefox address bar. A small unobtrusive gray icon sits to the right of your address bar and all you have to do is write the text of your tweet and click on this button to publish it. Also, hovering your mouse over the button will tell you how many characters you have left.

You can also post by typing ‘ –post’ right after the tweet text or hit the gray arrow when visiting a certain webpage to carry out a URL tweet (i.e it adds ‘Currently Browsing: ‘ in front of the URL). Options for the extension include safe/secure mode, open Twitter in new tab after posting and the ability to change the URL tweet ‘Currently browsing’ text.
