Long-awaited follow-up to the Homeworld game series
Homeworld 3 is a premium strategy title for PC developed by Blackbird Interactive. It is the latest installment in the award-winning sci-fi RTS game series, Homeworld. It will build upon the stunning visuals and detailed world and character designs that its predecessors were much-loved for.
Compared to the last entry to the series, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, Homeworld 3 is going to fully transition to 3D for every aspect of the gameplay for a more immersive and intricate experience. It also introduces new game modes that encourage interactivity and competition with other players online.
A pioneer of 3D real-time strategy
To say that the Homeworld series has had a huge impact and influence on the RTS genre would be an understatement. During an era when most games of its kind were being designed in 2D, it was one of the few that first pushed the boundaries for computer graphics by incorporating both perspectives into its core gameplay, paired with stunning art design for its time.
Homeworld 3, with the help of modern PC hardware, builds upon its predecessor’s visuals to a fully 3D world filled with incredibly wide vistas of space and beautiful lighting effects. Meanwhile, combat is as diverse and strategic as ever, letting you decide how you want to tackle various encounters as you see fit—attack head-on or set up an ambush on an unsuspecting fleet of ships.
As mentioned earlier, this game introduces new game modes, and they come in the form of online co-op and PvP. This is a departure from the traditionally single-player-focused gameplay of its predecessors, but it’s a welcome addition that many fans will appreciate. There’s still some time left to wait before it comes out. As of this writing, it is planned for a “first half of 2023” release window.
The next evolution
It was a long time coming, but Homeworld 3 is on its way, and fans have plenty to look forward to. If you’re one of them, you’ll get to see the evolution of the series from both a visual and gameplay standpoint. It’s going to look better than ever and brings with it some nice new modes to make the gameplay all the more fun and interesting.
