Mahmoud Khalil al-Husary, also known as Shaykh Mahmoud Khalil al-Husary, is an Egyptian Muslim religious scholar, and the current Imam and Senior Scholar of Al-Azhar University. He is a religious leader, the head of the Qari’ah (Reciter), and the head of the Fiqh (Jurisprudence) department at Al-Azhar University. He is a well-known Islamic religious scholar, a teacher, and a leader of Islamic religious studies.
He was born in the village of Shobra al-Namla in Tanta, Egypt, in 1911, and he died in July 2017.
He was a student at the Qur’an school at the age of four, and he was already memorizing the Qur’an when he was eight years old.
At 12, he entered the Qur’an school at the Al-Azhar Islamic religious institute. He studied the Qur’an and the ten qir’aat (recitations) at the institute.
