Shoot, run, and shoot some more in High Hell
High Hell is a first-person shooter from indie publisher Devolver. In it, you battle your way through neon-coloured levels packed with enemies, zapping them with your trusty laser rifle. Each episode features furious run-and-gun action, with intermittent battles against giant bosses. Fast-paced and frantic, this game features simple graphics and challenging, compelling gameplay.
Welcome to High Hell
For a first-person shooter, High Hell is very simple. You’re essentially limited to one gun, and ammunition’s not a problem. You can dispatch most enemies in a few hits, but you don’t have a lot of health yourself. Fortunately, you restore your own health when you shoot an enemy, so if you keep shooting you’ll stay alive. Each level features a furious battle against hordes of enemies that’s usually over in just a minute or two. The graphics are simple and blocky, with a stylish maroon and pink colour scheme. The soundtrack, from Doseone, provides the electronic beats to fuel your laser-rifle rampage. Part of the challenge comes from replaying this game, striving to achieve faster speeds on levels where every second counts. Despite its simple graphics and very short total play time, this game offers plenty of action-packed fun.
An exciting arcade experience
If you like fast-paced action games with a streak of offbeat humour, and don’t mind simple graphics, High Hell is well worth your (admittedly short) time.
