Adventure shooter with roguelite elements
Gunfire Reborn is a premium adventure game from Duoyi Games. This combines elements of roguelite gameplay and first-person shooter, featuring cute and colorful graphics. In this game, you control one of the many heroes as you proceed across procedurally generated levels. Choose from over a hundred items and weapons to create your unique build for every randomized run.
With virtually unlimited potential for replayability and engaging difficulty scaling, Gunfire Reborn is both fun and challenging. Aside from minor translation and interface problems, the game works surprisingly well. It feels like a combination of Risk of Rain 2 and Borderlands 3.
Cute animal heroes for nonstop action
In Gunfire Reborn, one to four players must complete four different zones, each of them containing levels. Each level is filled with rooms, requiring players to clear them in order before advancing to the next. The use of procedural generation technologies makes each game thematically coherent while mixing up the details, making for unique gameplay experiences every run. Also, each level is marked with a boss fight.
Another strong selling point of the game is its cute character designs. Players choose from one of a dozen heroes, each being an anthropomorphic animal with a unique attack and skill set. For example, players start with the Crown Prince who uses various elements for damage, defense, and crowd control. Other heroes require you to purchase the DLCs first, the Visitors of Spirit Realm and the Artisan and Magician.
Since the game is originally developed by the Chinese studio Duoyi Games, it was originally released in Mandarin. While the game continues to improve its language localization for other regions, users continue to report minor translation issues that make it challenging to understand certain in-game texts. In terms of gameplay, it’s designed to be played in co-op, as some bosses can prove too tough for single-player runs.
An addictive, replayable experience
Gunfire Reborn is one of those games that’s easy to get into and unusually difficult to leave. It features cute animal designs enough to lure most players in. Combine this with a wide range of weapons and upgrades to match different playstyles, and you have a replayable roguelite you can enjoy solo or with friends. At this point, minor inconsistencies in terms of translation no longer derail the gameplay experience.
