Bring pocket monsters to GTA 5
GTA 5 Pokemon Mod is a free game utility developed for Grand Theft Auto V. This user-created mod lets you recreate Pokémon GO within the GTA 5 game. The game features defining traits of the hit augmented reality game such as the iconic Pokémon (pocket monsters), as well as the ability to fight or capture them in the in-game world.
The GTA 5 Pokemon Mod recreates a different game, similar to the GTA 5 Liberty City Mod or the GTA 5 Just Cause 3 Mod. However, it goes further by drawing from a different genre originally for a different device.
Pokémon Go on GTA 5
With the GTA 5 Pokemon Mod, you can essentially play Pokémon GO but with GTA 5 mechanics. Pokémon roam around the city, walking around like usual non-playable characters (NPC). You can catch Pokémon using a Pokéball, essentially a re-textured GTA baseball. You can also beat up other Pokémon, but in real GTA fashion, using your fists instead. Even the items and the interface look like those from Pokémon GO.
It’s also funny how your own Pokémon looks like a crime accomplice, following you around and even riding in your car after you steal them. There are close to a hundred different Pokémon already available in the game. The stops also function as they do in the original game. An autosave feature is also a welcome improvement to the GTA manual save.
Of course, while it tries to copy as much of the original game as possible, it’s far from perfect. Visual glitches cause a weird hole to appear on the eyes of the Pokémon in some instances. Also, the game doesn’t feature custom animation such as the pocket monsters blowing fire or water or sending leaves flying. Aside from that, it works as a cross between GTA 5 and Pokémon GO.
Still a GTA game
Before you forget, GTA 5 Pokemon Mod still retains a lot of original features like getting Wasted or Busted. Still, it manages to bring Pokémon GO into the game, re-texturing existing items and models to create the monsters, the items, and even the map locations similar to the original mobile game. Although it has its share of glitches and shortcomings, it’s still a great mod to add to your collection.
