Free mod for Total War: Warhammer III
Greater Kislev Mod is a free-to-use game utility developed by NoMatterWha for the real-time strategy (RTS) game Total War: Warhammer III. This mod expounds on the Kislev faction of the Warhammer lore. It features new unit designs and new technologies for players to develop. Through the mod, you get to try out new gameplay strategies.
Despite its focus on Kislevs, the mod is surprisingly balanced. If you’re looking for more Warhammer content aside from Total War’s Greater Kislev Mod, you can check out Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III or its Dark Crusade expansion.
Spotlight on the Kislev
For those unfamiliar, the Kislev is one of the human civilizations playable in the Total War game inspired by the expansive Warhammer franchise. They share cultural and aesthetic similarities with Russian culture and have built their civilization in the area known as The Realm of the Ice Queen. The Greater Kislev Mod mostly revolves around this faction, although it works to keep the modded version balanced with the rest.
With that said, the mod offers a lot of custom features for this particular playable faction. For example, new custom traits have been assigned to certain Kislev units on top of entirely new ones. Additionally, their tech tree has been greatly expanded with the addition of all-new techs that have their own requirements and advantages. Interestingly, this adds a mix of weak and strong techs to keep the balance.
Its greatest value is in allowing you to test it out, or see enemy AI use the new and improved Kislev without being overpowered. However, there are a few bugs that cause some of the custom skins and textures to not load properly. Aside from this minor setback, it’s an enjoyable mod that makes the otherwise stale Kislev more challenging to play as or against.
A good, balanced add-on
Overall, Greater Kislev Mod is a great addition to your Total War Warhammer gaming experience. It adds a host of custom materials, most of them focused on the titular Kislev, without throwing the game’s balance away from that of the original vanilla version. Expect aesthetic, technological, and tactical changes that will make you take another look at the denizens of the Ice Queen. Highly recommended.
