A free camera app that checks your ancestry
Gradient: DNA Ancestry AI Test is a free-to-try photography mobile app that offers selfie filter options and other cool features. Developed by Ticket To The Moon, Inc., this multimedia app also enables you to figure out where your ancestors came from. Using its AI recognition system, it can tell you what percentage of ethnicities your family tree may be composed of—all based on your facial features. Gradient: DNA Ancestry AI Test shows itself off as a trendy camera app that’s similar to how FaceApp operates. However, the bulk of its features focus more on-camera effects.
Only great for a few minutes
Firstly, Gradient: DNA Ancestry AI Test has most of the selfie features you would come to expect from most camera apps. There are various camera filters available, including classic ones like grayscale and sepia. It has a photo editor that allows you to adjust settings like saturation and brightness with easy-to-use sliders. There’s also a hair collage feature that lets you change the color of your hair as if you’ve actually had it done at a salon.
If you want to manually fix any blemishes on your photo, the app has advanced beauty tools that retouch your appearance, adjusts your skin tone, and paints your lips. Gradient’s best feature, however, is its DNA Ancestry or Ethnicity Estimate tool. You just have to take a selfie or upload an existing one. The app’s AI will scan your face and will show your possible various ethnicities in percentages.
Another AI feature is the Look-Alike tool that renders a celebrity’s face and shows which one looks similar to you. Unlike the DNA Ancestry tool, though, its results can get repetitive and disbelieving. Lastly, there’s the Classical Portrait Style tool that cleverly edits your image onto a historical painting. Gradient is pretty fun to try out, but it mostly locks its features behind a pricey monthly subscription that has a 3-day trial. There’s no long-term usage of one of its features that justifies its price, unfortunately.
