A Ghosts ‘N Goblins fan game

Ghosts’n Demons is an action-adventure game that was created by an independent developer named BonusJZ. This is an unofficial remake and fan game based on the classic Ghosts ‘N Goblins series by Capcom. In this game, you take command of a heroic knight on an epic adventure to defeat the forces of evil and rescue a kidnapped princess. In this 2D side scroller, you will face hordes of zombies, ghosts, and demons in your quest to save her.

What is Ghosts’n Demons about?

As mentioned above, Ghosts’n Demons is a fan game that is based on the classic platformer, Ghosts ‘N Goblins video game franchise that came out back in the 90s. More specifically, it takes inspiration and cues from Makaimura for WonderSwan, the fourth game in that series. This remake plays and feels much like the original, with the biggest difference being that it’s in full color compared to the original, which was in black and white.

Apart from being in full color, there are some other nice-to-haves such as scanline effects and support for higher resolution gaming. Couple this with its 2D pixel art style and you get a pretty stylish reimagining of a classic. Each level features intense and challenging battles that culminate in a boss battle at the end. Discover hidden chests and collect coins, weapons, and power-ups to help you in your quest and battle against evil.

Ghosts’n Demons is also quite flexible in the sense that it lets you decide how you want to play it and fight enemies. You can attack them from below, from above, and you can even use them to traverse difficult areas. Speaking of difficulty, this game is can be punishingly hard, even on easy. If you’re new to this type of game, it might take you a bit of time to get used to it.

A proper homage to a 90s classic video game

Ghosts’n Demons is a proper homage to Ghosts ‘N Goblins that any fan of the series will appreciate and enjoy playing. It stays fateful to the core mechanics and gameplay of the original while introducing some nice modern improvements. It might prove to be quite a challenge to newcomers, but it’s a whole lot of fun and a must-play if you haven’t yet.
