Become a football manager in this simulation game

Football Manager 2020 or FM20 is a video game developed by SEGA Sports for football fans. In this simulation game, players are able to dive into the world of football managers. It gives them a near life-like experience of managing a football club, from signing players and pre-game preparations to joining international leagues. Every decision you make will count, so you will need to think everything through.

Get the managerial experience

The Football Manager franchise starts giving players the football manager experience in 1992. The game bears the name of the Championship Manager then, but the game developer parted with its then-game publisher, Eidos Interactive, and had lost their naming rights to the game. Come 2004, and the developer regains the rights to the source code of their original simulation game. However, they needed to rename the game as Eidos retained the rights to the Championship Manager brand. They then named it Football Manager—also known as FM.

Since the first FM game release in 2005, the franchise received a level of popularity that rivals Championship Manager 5. Every year after that, the studio releases new versions bearing updates to make gamers’ experience better. It even has a massively multiplayer online game. Football Manager 2020 focused on the basic mechanics of FM 2019, but with more advanced details. Its focal point is the length and realistic ball play.

Mobile football management

FM 2020 introduces you to the new Club Vision, which requires you to negotiate on club philosophies when players sign with a club. For instance, the board may require players of a certain age to take a certain league position. You can ignore this and create your own brand, however. Club Vision only aims to give players a realistic experience, wherein football professionals are forced to adapt to unique situations based on the identity of the club. Moreover, it added a degree of difficulty and depth to the gameplay.

The developer also made a lot of new developments other than the Club Vision. Controllable elements like credits and player performances are further simplified. There are also improved tactics and more extensive team selection to make things easier. Also included in the new version is the overhauled system for promoting youth candidates. There is an option to join tournaments, both local and international—including the Premier League. Football Manager 2020 also allows youngsters to have a little game time through the introduction of reserve teams

Football Manager 2020 comes with a UI similar to the original titles. Players can view the games in the old school top-down dot style. There is also an incredible amount of detail and information presented in a very comprehensive outlook. However, at some point, the animation may bother you. At some angle, the game looks too hard. Buying players also tend to be difficult since some ask for payment that is way above what the board allows. The game is also not immune to bug issues.

Verdict

The FM series is arguably the ultimate management football simulator of today, and Football Manager 2020 is proof that it doesn’t plan on losing the reign. This version brings back some of the immersive features of the original titles and combines them with new ones to add depth and make them more interesting. There are a few improvements needed, but all in all, it is a great game to play if you are a football fan.
