An interactive story of Halloween gone wrong
Fngs Fr Th Mmrs is an indie horror RPG with an eccentric sense of humor. Players take control of a character who takes part in a Halloween party where strange things begin to happen. As you play, a twisted story of horror will begin to unfold.
The game is similar to other horror RPGs such as Pocket Mirror and The Evil Within 2. However, it stands out from more conventional fare with its quirky webcomic-style graphics and humor.
A darkly comical RPG
Fngs Fr Th Mmrs draws heavily upon the aesthetics of Japanese RPGs, but has its own twist on the genre. Instead of a typical RPG hero, protagonist Trevor is simply an ordinary person who attends a party in a vampire costume. The player will encounter NPCs drawn in the style of manga-influenced webcomics, and the dialogue captions have humorous content.
Interactive horror.
Exploring the game’s seemingly mundane setting will soon reveal unnerving elements. When the Halloween party starts, a game with a crystal ball causes the characters to turn into the creatures depicted in their costumes. What follows is an interactive horror story where the narrative is more important than gameplay.
Mixed presentation
The game’s presentation is uneven. The character art in the dialogue scenes is well-drawn, but the top-down environments are very basic. The dialogue is fully voiced, and although the performances are not particularly sophisticated they nonetheless give each character a distinct personality. The eerie music is appropriate.
An interactive story more than a challange
Like all horror games, Fngs Fr Th Mmrs may be unsuitable for sensitive players, although its cartoonish aesthetic makes it very tame by the standards of the genre. The gameplay is simplistic: this is the sort of RPG intended for players who prefer a story, rather than a challenge.
