Free furry visual novel
Filia Regis is a free visual novel that features anthropomorphic animals, or furries. You take on the role of a farmer killed in a war or an exiled knight. As you are revived in a shrine, your journey to uncover more about yourself and the kingdom begins.
Reminiscent of other engaging and story-driven role-playing games like Jolly Roger, Filia Regis offers you multiple paths to take depending on decisions and answers to conversations in the game. With its 16-bit game design evoking a sense of nostalgia, this is a game anyone can jump right in.
Investigate a changing world
At the start of Filia Regis, you are given a choice to play as the male farmer Morvis or the female knight Alexandre. As you progress through the game, you learn more and more about the post-revolution state of Anterris, the world where you live in. You can focus on the story thanks to its simple controls, either by mouse or by the keyboard.
Depending on which character you decide to play, the story and characters around you also change greatly. This assures you of at least two vantage points to learn about the evil queen that set the events of the game in motion. Combine that with the multiple possible endings for each character and you have great replayability for this game–making for hours of gameplay.
Despite the wealth of characters to interact with, there are limited options for romantic interests in this game. This leaves you with quite a few choices, limiting the game’s appeal. Other than that, it’s a game that offers endings with narrative twists that leave you wanting for more. A little warning though, the game contains mature topics like religion, gender discrimination, and fighting–making it unsuitable for young players.
A mature, story-driven game
Although uses 16-bit art and furries, Filia Regis is a narratively mature game that requires multiple tries to better understand the whole picture. It offers complex storytelling that focuses on intrigue and politics and less on romance–evidenced by the relatively small pool of potential love interests in the game. Still, the game is a great visual novel definitely worth your time.
