Mod loader for a classic RPG
Fable Anniversary – Modding DLC is free-to-use downloadable content (DLC) that lets you load custom materials for the high-definition remake Fable Anniversary. This essential add-on opens up a host of new content and even connects you with the struggling modding community for the Fable franchise. Anniversary and Fable are built on different engines, but both role-playing games enjoy support from a dedicated fanbase.
With a centralized location for all your custom content plus official support from the developers themselves, Fable Anniversary – Modding DLC is a definite must-have. Check out more about the franchise with Fable – The Lost Chapters.
An official modding platform
Fable Anniversary – Modding DLC aims to serve as the official modding platform for the 2013 Fable Anniversary. The base game, in turn, was an HD remake of the much older RPG game, the 2004 title Fable. While the franchise continues to enjoy a solid player base, the modding scene failed to enjoy the same popularity. It’s simpler than its contemporaries, but still Fable has become notorious for being hard to modify.
Aside from the massive improvement in audio and video quality, this modding platform is also a significant improvement over its predecessor—although still not enough to keep up with games like Fallout 4 or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It has the standard toolset that lets you modify existing in-game assets, or create your own from scratch. However, as it has its own modding platform, it requires additional experience.
Also, while it’s free, it is still largely limited as it is. It has nearly 10Gb of additional storage but it still feels incomplete. It allows you to modify in-game assets and objects, but it’s largely limited in terms of changing values or reprogramming AI behavior, which prevents modders from creating certain aspects of a custom game. Additionally, it also suffers from freezing and crashing bugs.
A work in progress
There are a lot of issues preventing Fable Anniversary – Modding DLC from performing all functions expected of a modding platform, but it is a step in the right direction. Considering the decades of the Fable franchise, the developers’ effort to offer a free and legitimate modding platform is commendable at the very least. Its large storage requirements for such limited capability may suggest that there’s more to come.
