Dark mode frontend for Everything

Everything.NET is a utility application for Everything. Open-source and free to download, this app serves as a dark mode frontend for the popular file searching software. It provides a sleek dark appearance to make it easier for the users’ eyes. Not only that, but it also offers a few additional functions to enhance the user experience. Users should note that this tool is not a standalone app. It does not work without the Everything app. Additionally, it requires the Microsoft.Net 5.0 Runtime installed on your computer to function.

What is Everything.NET?

As you probably hinted, Everything.NET’s primary work is not to bring new features or improvements to the search tool. Rather, it is designed to offer the users the possibility of performing queries in a dark mode interface. It provides a sleeker look to the app and makes it easier for users to work in low-light conditions. Similar to VoidTool’s Everything app, the program provides an instant result for searches. Its overall performance is also the same as it relies on the desktop search engine.

However, as mentioned, it also offers a few enhancements for easier usage. For one, it can access the Explorer context menu by right-clicking the file. Double-clicking the file, meanwhile, will show the file in File Explorer. The app also comes with some hotkeys, displaying the previous words you searched for by tapping the up arrow key. The downside of this feature is that you are limited to one item from the search history.

Like in the Everything app, you can use the up and down button to navigate the app. However, it requires the users to tap the down arrow first before using both keys. The right-click menu also only works with files and does not support folders. Subsequently, the context menu is not for files located in the ProgramData folder. Furthermore, you cannot minimize the program on your system tray. To close it, hit the Escape key. Finally, the entire menubar is missing, along with various options they offer. However, since Everything is running in the background, you can use the official app for functions that this tool lacks.

Is Everything.NET good?

Despite its various shortcomings, Everything.NET is still a good and handy app for those who often use the file searcher. Aside from making the main program appear sleeker with its dark mode feature, it also improves the search engine by adding some nifty functions. It also made the experience more user-friendly by cutting out complex options. Best of all, it retains the core search functions so that everything is familiar to the users.
