All-new maps for Doom II
Elementalism Mod is a free-to-use game utility developed for the hit action game Doom II. In this set of 3D maps made by Bauul, players of the dated video game are treated to high-quality stages but retain the mechanics and elements of the original. In true Doom fashion, the custom maps are divided into three episodes.
With its thematically-coherent maps, Elementalism Mod is a great addition to any Doom gaming experience. Other impressive add-ons for the classic first-person shooter (FPS) include the Doom II: Mortal Kombat Doom (Zandronum) Mod and the Brutal Doom mods.
A wealth of new content
Elementalism Mod lets you play 15 new levels across three Doom-like episodes. You get unique aesthetics and environmental themes centered around The Realm of Earth, The Realm of Water, and the Realm of Fire. Each realm is clearly defined by its specific elements. While the premise appears simple, the developers behind the mod managed to come up with something that can be easily considered as authentic Doom content.
More importantly, developers used the advanced Universal Doom Map Format and the visual capabilities of GZDoom, a source port that allows more advanced technologies to be implemented in the game. It creates incredibly vivid and textured set designs that appear visually superior to the original 1994 video game. Additionally, there are custom monsters you can face as you travel through the realms.
Although Doom II is a relatively old game, make sure to be ready to meet the requirements of the mod. It’s not resource-intensive like modern games but it also requires you to have a system compatible with OpenGL 3.3. Also, there are a few bugs with regards to the textures of the levels and a few animation glitches with the custom monsters.
An extra Doom experience
For fans of the long-running franchise, revisiting Doom II with the Elementalism Mod will definitely be a worthwhile experience. It features consistently designed maps distributed across three element-themed worlds. More than that, the developers took the effort to introduce custom monsters that are also consistent with the theme. There are a few requirements that shouldn’t be too difficult with modern-day systems.
