Gameplay improvement mod for DN: Forever
Duke Nukem Forever: Enhanced Mod is a free-to-use game utility from modder vini1264. This custom add-on introduces a number of gameplay changes and minor fixes to the 2011 first-person shooter game from Gearbox Software and 2K Games, Duke Nukem: Forever. Improving minor aspects of the game, such as movement and interaction somehow modernizes the game.
Duke Nukem Forever: Enhanced Mod, feels like a remaster or a minor remake of the original, despite having a few issues of its own. Enjoy the rest of the franchise with Duke Nukem Manhattan Project or Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour.
Move faster, kill faster
Duke Nukem Forever: Enhanced Mod essentially fixes a lot of the problems that made the base game unpopular at the time of its release. DN: Forever was criticized for its poor gameplay performance, on top of the repeated premise and humor. To start, the mod now lets you move faster, running in particular. It also increased your jump height, giving the Duke the fast-paced action he deserves.
While the base game’s difficulty is partly attributed to its buggy gameplay, some of the changes improve the quality of life or rob the game of the few challenges it has. For example, in the original, long swims must be traveled precisely because you only have 15 seconds. Now, players can enjoy three times as long, with the underwater extended to 45 minutes.
It also stabilizes the screen shake, and even adds a Quicksave feature with F5. On the other hand, the mod comes with its own set of problems, the worst of which is that it tends to crash when loaded with incompatible base game versions. Other bugs, such as the inability to access other weapons, can be resolved in offline versions where the Steam cloud is not active.
A welcome improvement
Duke Nukem Forever: Enhanced Mod is a recommended add-on for players looking to enjoy the base DN: Forever experience. The movement buffs make the Duke feel more alive as you play through its various stages. While players who’ve tried the original might argue about the difficulty of the game dropping with the improved quality of life, it’s still a massive improvement.
