A New DOOM For A New Age, Now In VR.

DOOM is a 2016 first-person shooter, sharing its name and series with the 1994 classic that helped define the genre. In it, you play as a virtually-silent marine fighting demons in a Mars-based hellscape, using your grit and big guns to survive a constant onslaught of abominations.

Rip And Tear, Up Close And Personal

DOOM characterizes Doomguy, the marine you play as, a bit more. In cutscenes you get to watch him show just how much he likes slaying demons. Outside of them, the game is a solid, good-looking first person shooter held back somewhat by graphical filters that remove rather than add colour to the game. Specifically as a VR game, DOOM does well: the game controls swimmingly and the camera pans smoothly, allowing the player to get fully absorbed into their role as the world’s most determined space marine.

Lots Of Hate, Maybe Some Love

DOOM players who are familiar with the series may have some reservations about the game: it’s not as forthcoming with weapons and powerups, and some of the story and gameplay mechanics may be an acquired taste. But fans of VR will find it a very competent game from that standpoint, and new players will surely be engrossed by the game.
