Disc-tossing sports game

Disc Jam is a sports game developed by High Horse Entertainment. This game pits together 2-4 players against each other in a frantic match that combines air hockey and tennis. Here, players will scramble to retrieve and throw a glowing disc to outscore the opposition.

The gameplay of Disc Jam will remind players of the cult classic Windjammers as the game is ostensibly a polygonal version of the latter. However, it has a few tricks that separate it from its sport ball predecessor. Although as it is an indie game, it does not offer much in terms of content.

What is Disc Jam?

Disc Jam is a game where you control an athlete tasked with retrieving and hurling a disc. Here, your goal is to outscore your opponent through a variety of traditional and super-powered tactics. The matches are presented in a best-of-three-round format, with 50 points being the winning score. You can play in 1vs1 and 2vs2 games, with the multiplayer mode playable locally or online.

The early matches will resemble typical tennis matches, where you and your opponent will throw and retrieve the disc back and forth. However, once you get the hang of it, you can add in special attacks. Moreover, once you engage in a series of perfect throws, the disc speed will increase. Of course, you will need to respond with lightning-fast reflexes to keep the rally going.

Players should note, however, that the game’s scoring system is not like tennis. You earn points by hurling a disc into an opponent’s goal or dropping it on their side of the net. A string of successful serves and returns also boosts your next point total. However, there is only one stadium with no crowd and no alternate camera angles. There is also no option to play the game solo.

Should you play it?

Overall, Disc Jam is a game that brings thrills, especially for sports fans. It provides arcade-style gameplay with addicting elements. However, it needs a few improvements to offer a truly competitive experience. It could use better matchmaking, practice bots, and a ranking system. It also does not help that there is only one stadium to play at with no crowd to hype you up.
