An MMORPG entry to a beloved franchise
Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play adventure experience from Blizzard Entertainment and will be a cross-platform entry to the franchise. This massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) is set between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III. Players will choose their adventurer and explore Sanctuary to fight off the evil hordes looking to conquer the realm of men, or what’s left of it.
Aside from bridging the stories between the second and third Diablo games, Diablo Immortal is also set to improve the multiplayer feature. With top-tier graphics and a curious new story, this game is a definite must-try.
Choose your champion
Like other games in the franchise, Diablo Immortal also focuses on the premise of an unlikely hero stepping up to save the world. In this game, you can choose from six character classes: Barbarian, Wizard, Demon Hunter, Crusader, Monk, and Necromancer. Each of these classes has 12 unlockable skills, five of which can be used concurrently through shortcut slots. However, this game allows you to change classes later on.
Additionally, it breaks free from the established game formula of its predecessors. For example, mana and similar skill resources have been removed in favor of a skill cooldown mechanic. There is also an “ultimate meter” that fills up with every attack. Maxing it out unlocks a stronger move or a strategic advantage. Players can also expect more character specializations beyond the character classes with its Paragon Trees.
Since the game was originally developed for mobile devices, this PC port has surprisingly light system requirements. However, this also means that the game is not optimized for this system, leading to connectivity and gameplay issues at certain points in the game. Also, like most games in the franchise, expect the presence of mature themes such as violence, blood, and gore.
Wander after Destruction’s Wake
As Diablo Immortal enjoyed massive player numbers in its first year, it has launched an anniversary event titled Destruction’s Wake. The event features a host of limited-time content as well as introducing new features. Players can now enter the Ancient’s Cradle, a new location in the hidden fringes of the Forgotten Sea. The map and its quests tie into the larger Diablo storyline, making it hard to pass.
Aside from eight new side quests, a host of new monsters will test the player’s skill, especially since it requires the Hell Difficulty VI completed as a prerequisite. Speaking of difficulty, the harder Inferno Difficulty I is now available, which comes with its own leaderboards and a new tier of Legendary Items, and new Stances. Of course, get ready to meet new demons such as Vhansoon, Gebdu, and Khuluul.
An exciting new Diablo game
For fans of the long-running franchise, Diablo Immortal is a definite must-try. Aside from the minor issues on this port, and the presence of mature content, it actually manages to build on the legacy of the last two Diablo games and create something action-packed and challenging. Moreover, adopting the MMORPG format definitely allows existing mechanics to be reworked in favor of this game.
