2D MMO game
Dead Maze is a free-to-play 2D action game from Atelier 801. Set in a destroyed contemporary world filled with zombies, this game will have you explore and survive the hostile environment using items you scavenged or crafted. You will have to upgrade your gear and camp as you play to get a higher chance of survival. For such a dire and depressing situation, however, the game offers a very bright, colorful, and fun design.
What is Dead Maze?
Aside from being a 2D isometric massively multiplayer game, Dead Maze is also a cooperative game. For more chances of survival, you and other players will need to band together. As noted, you will need to restore civilization by exploring the zombie-infested world and purging the land of the undead. To do so, you need to set up camp and scavenge for food, weapon, and other helpful items. Any item is a potential weapon, even the teddy bear lying around.
However, scavenging can be tiring. While you will not deplete your health as time goes by, doing a huge amount of actions can take a toll on your health and affect how you communicate with your fellow players. To control your health better, you can create a vegetable garden or breed animals in your camp. That way, you will have easier access to food sources.
Dead Maze follows a unique, story-oriented approach instead of the usual kill-or-be-killed route that other zombie games often offered. As noted, it has a bright and colorful design that is also unusual for a game of such a depressing premise. Players will also have fun customizing their camp. However, as with any game, expect a few bugs. The building materials are also pretty high and ramp up quickly. Over time, the game will also become repetitive.
Still a good game
Despite its shortcomings, Dead Maze is still a great find if you are looking for a zombie survival game to play. It has a familiar Ragnarok Online style gameplay, which is easy to learn, especially for hardcore gamers. More than the combat and exploration, it also offers a camp building, which can be fun if you like crafting. Finally, it is free to play, small, and can work even on a potato computer.
