The brutal console game comes to Windows
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is a port of the console role playing game, which is revered for its relentlessly challenging gameplay and impressive dark style.
You play an Undead, escaped from an asylum, on a journey to fulfill an ancient prophecy through a huge world that’s genuinely beautiful, even though it’s filled with horrors. As you journey around the world you can save your progress at Bonfires, which will restore various items. You collect souls and humanity as you kill enemies, and you lose everything if you die. Death is a real punishment in Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, which is a great part of what makes it compelling.
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition has a really impressive world, with huge bosses that are excellently designed. However, this is a port of the console version and doesn’t take advantage of the additional power that PCs can have. It’s a shame Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition doesn’t look as good as it could have, but it doesn’t stop it being an excellent game.
What may put players off is the unapologetic difficultly, but if you accept it and persevere, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is a very rewarding, and very long game. You’ll need to practice to become good at this game, as it is not enough to just be persistent.
Although it’s not much more than a simple console port, PC gamers should not waste the opportunity to play this excellent RPG.
