CopticHymns: An App for Preserving the Coptic Orthodox Church Hymnology
CopticHymns is an Android app developed by Subsplash Inc under the lifestyle category. The app aims to preserve the oral chant heritage of Coptic hymnology, which is at risk of being lost. This app is free to download and use.
The Heritage of the Coptic Orthodox Church (HCOC) choir founded the app in 2000 under the leadership of Deacon Albair Mikhail. The choir members are from the church of the Prophet Daniel and the Three Saintly Youth in Mississauga, Canada, and also from the churches in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, the USA, Australia, and Egypt. The app acts as a reference for the education, preservation, and enrichment of Copts and those interested in the historical musical heritages of indigenous communities around the world.
CopticHymns provides accurate renditions of the hymns, which are recorded through rigorous study, research, and comparative analysis of Coptic hymnology from Cantor Mikhail El-Batanouny, who is the main source, and his disciples. The app offers a unique opportunity to learn and experience the beauty of Coptic hymnology through academic recordings.
