CommView is a program for monitoring Internet and LAN activity, capturing and analyzing network packets. It gathers information about data passing through dial-up connection, Ethernet or Token Ring card, or loopback interface and decodes the analyzed data.
With CommView you can see the list of network connections, IP statistics and examine individual packets, reconstruct TCP sessions that the selected packet belongs to. Packets are decoded down to the lowest layer with analysis of the most protocols. Full access to raw data is also provided. Captured packets can be saved to log files for future analysis. The program is capable of mapping packets to application that sent or received them. A flexible system of filters makes it possible to drop packets you don’t need.
Other useful features include the ability to generate HTML reports, run in multiple instances for monitoring several adapters simultaneously, invisible mode, assiging aliases to IP or MAC addresses, and an advanced Packet Generator, alarms. CommView data can be shared with your own application using a TCP/IP interface. The program offers the remote network monitoring capability.
