A classic Half-Life mod modernized
Cold Ice Remastered Mod is a free-to-use utility created by solidi for the critically acclaimed FPS video game Half-Life. This mod is designed as a modernized, open-source version of Cold Ice 1.75, a famous mod for Half-Life back in 1999. It’s a total conversion that puts players in a winter setting, delivering a fast-paced and exhilarating deathmatch experience.
Cold Ice Remastered is a humongous mod that overhauls the deathmatch game mode and features voiceover cameos from celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson. Its focus is on multiplayer gameplay, unlike mods such as Half-Life: Decay Mod, which alters the single-player campaign.
Enhanced deathmatch
Cold Ice Remastered Mod is a passion project made possible by the dedication and hard work of the Half-Life modding community. It features over 30 new weapons that include pop culture references such as Blade’s automatic handgun and the Railgun from Quake II. All new weapons have SD/HD models and blue or orange skins. Dual-wielding has also been added, enabling dual SMGs and dual Desert Eagles.
Moreover, there are new gameplay mechanics that enhance combat. Players can now pull off maneuvers such as the Selaco Slide and Pick Up and Punch Back. The introduction of Powerup runes like Frag and Vampire also spice up every firefight. The mod also features new and original maps while also adding a total of 14 new player models such as the Commando, HHev, and Stormtrooper.
Weapon viewmodels have also been updated and enhanced. There are new holster animations and weapon sway and fidget animations. Among the other features include an offhand grappling hook, throwable melees, hilarious movie sound clips, and a detailed texture pack. Given how big this mod is and how it alters multiplayer, it can be a bit challenging to install especially for those new to modding.
Is it worth playing?
Cold Ice Remastered Mod isn’t just a modernization of a classic mod. It’s a genuine remaster that not only brings the old mod closer to modern standards but also adds plenty of new features to make it even better. Whether you played the classic mod or not, if you enjoyed Half-Life and its multiplayer experience, then this mod is worth taking the time to install.
