It has been prepared by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which is the government body that is responsible for the conduct of research and training in the field of education. The NCERT has been designated as the body to coordinate and guide the activities related to the study of the history of the world and to promote the research work of students.

The NCERT book of Class 8 History has three major sections:

The first section is about the history of the world from the earliest times to the present day. It contains two chapters. The second section is about the history of the United States and contains four chapters.
