Puzzling mystery RPG
Cemetery Mary is a visual novel game by indie developer arcadekitten. This game follows a girl named Mary, who loves visiting the cemetery. She still keeps visiting the cemetery even when rumors of a serial killer start floating around her town. That is until her parents went missing. Now Mary—with the help of an unknown helper—must wade through the mystery to find her parents. However, there is a sinister force that threatens to make her a permanent resident of the cemetery she so loves. Cemetery Mary is a puzzling role-playing game that can result in good and bad endings.
Find Mary’s parents
Cemetery Mary comes with three different routes, each with a good ending and a bad ending. The outcome of the game depends on the choices you make throughout the campaign. There is also a true ending, which is the author-intended ending. Players can unlock this by playing any of the three routes. However, not all ending will unlock this, making it a challenging goal for players. All in all, there are seven endings in the game that players can explore, adding replay value to the game.
As with any visual novel games, Cemetery Mary is mostly narration. There are a few scenes wherein players will need to decide, and these decisions will affect the next course of the story. But, other than that, there is nothing much to do in the game. To make up for it, the game comes with great visuals.
The story is also well-written and gripping that players will get hooked without all the action. However, some players may find it hard to unlock the true ending. Also, the game could use a walkthrough so that players won’t end up getting the bad endings all the time.
Amazing story-driven game
Overall, Cemetery Mary is a recommended game for those who are fond of story-driven games. The game has a well-written character-based plot that will have players hooked no matter what route they chose to take. More so, the challenge of unlocking the true ending is a great move to have people play the game over and over.
