Hit the skies at full speed
Bullet Boy puts you in the helmet of one of the circus’s boldest characters: the human cannonball. You’ll play the role of this shooting star, as you rocket from one barrel of a gun to the next in order to execute the perfect jump.
Out of the cannon into the air
Bullet Boy is a game of precision and mental agility. Each short level starts with you curled up in a cannon. With a touch on the screen, Bullet Boy is fired out – ideally into another gun. This continues until you miss a target cannon, or until you clear the stage.
The complexity of Bullet Boy is how much you have to keep in mind at every point. Some guns are mobile, obstacles must be avoided, and there is a tornado constantly chasing you – so don’t hesitate or it may suck you up.
In addition to its main mode, Bullet Boy has an infinite mode which is unlocked at level 12. This has you fired from one barrel to the next until you manage to kill yourself on one of its randomly generated obstacles.
The game has great touch controls and excellent physics, with Bullet Boy’s successful jump between cannons dependent entirely on your timing and reaction.
Need help?
Each stage is stuffed full of obstacles and items, all of which keep your attention firmly locked on the screen. Some cannons may spin automatically, while others have to be manually rotated, or another still could automatically blast the poor human bullet out on arrival. Similar variety can also be seen in the obstacles, which include waterwheels, windmills, catapults, and plates.
The difficulty quickly increases but always feels fair. And though levels can become very complicated, the game offers multiple ways to help you. You can purchase upgrades from the store to improve your game, along with one time use power-ups. Need to get through a tricky obstacle, then maybe you can buy the drill helmet to tunnel your way through… or is that boring?
This is a free-to-play game though, so you can expect to be losing lives as you retry levels and then having to wait for them to recharge or purchasing more to continue – or you can watch an advert.
Bullet Boy has a colorful and fun aesthetic, filled with detail. It’s a charming look, which also does a good job drawing your eye to important elements.
Take to the skies
Bullet Boy is a great implementation of the free-to-play system, only demanding you use lives when you retry more challenging levels. With its attractive cartoon art style, combined with twitch puzzle action, this is certainly a blast.
