Become the true pizza villain

Awfully Good Pizza is a free hilarious simulation video game wherein you set out to make the worst pizzas ever. Developed by Beahives and shockpine, this 2D cooking game features one gameplay mechanic that lets you design pizzas to your heart’s content.

Like Pizza Frenzy and Turbo Pizza, this game was made for the Ludum Dare Game Jam 48 and is centered around a pizza place. Instead of most cooking and restaurant games, it puts you in the shoes of a strange pizza maker who is not interested in making their customers satisfied.

No need to be a people pleaser

In Awfully Good Pizza, you play as the pizza maker of a pizzeria. However, instead of craving for success, your goal is to sink your restaurant into debt by creating the most horrendous pizza orders ever. This unique premise is a homage to the old pizza-making Flash games—wherein most players just didn’t care how their creations looked, as long as they met the requirements.

The game features 25 unique customers—each one comically drawn with horrified sprites the more you mess up their orders. There are only 10 ingredients you can choose but you’re free to do whatever with every pizza dough you get. The gameplay mechanics are pretty easy as you just have to use your mouse cursor to select and place down ingredients.

It can be a hassle, though, as there’s no option to sprinkle as many of the ingredients down. You’ll have to constantly click to place them all if you plan on covering the entire dough. The ingredients also only show up at a certain distance above the dough—otherwise, they’ll be invisible if you place them down. Take note that they can’t be removed afterward.

Be as chaotic as possible

All in all, Awfully Good Pizza is still a silly little indie game if you like chaotic games wherein you don’t have to do anything right. The controls aren’t the best if you want faster gameplay but it’s still quite fun to sit back and just decorate pizzas as horribly as you can. They’re not all that complicated either so there’s no worry about your game crashing or freezing.
