In Tribute
Inspired by classic RPG style board games, Arcane Quest HD harkens back to the 1990s, and the dice based RPGs that would define the genre for years to come.
Roleplay Galore
Heavily inspired by RPG board games, Arcane Quest HD plays a lot like a digital version of one of those games. Roll virtual dice and move around the world, dealing with traps, chests, dungeons, and of course; monsters. Combat is also based on dice rolls, and the stats of your character determine how good they are at any give activity. The visual style of the game is cartoon but in a manner that suits the world and fits with the aesthetic of early 90s board game RPGs. You view your intrepid adventurers from a top down position, and move through the world in a grid system. The sound design is a bit hit and miss; the developers opted to have music playing most of the time, when really some ambient noise would have gone a long way to building the atmosphere.
A Good Tribute to Classic RPGs
Overall, Arcane Quest HD is a good game, and possibly a great game if you are into dice based RPGs. The sound design may not be perfect, and there isn’t a lot of variety in enemies to fight, but these are minor issues.
