Free class-based battle royale
Apex Legends is coming to mobile! Respawn Entertainment is starting a small beta test for Apex Legends Mobile. It follows the same mechanics as the PC and console version of the game wherein you and two other players team up to participate in an action-packed battle royale.
Each of you must select one of the pre-made characters (called “Legends”) and use your abilities to take down the opposing teams. Just like other made-for-mobile battle royales (e.x. League of Legends: Wild Rift and PUBG Mobile), this game will not support cross-play and cross-progression and will have a separate in-game store.
Is Apex Legends coming to mobile?
Apex Legends Mobile is now open for pre-registration. Those invited to test the beta version of Apex Legends will be able to download and play for free. One notable change from the desktop and console version is the ability to play in first-person and third-person modes. The addition of the third-person POV is to mimic other mobile battle royale games like PUBG and Call of Duty: Mobile.
Another reason is to allow you to see your character’s appearance or skins. Apart from toggling between these views, Apex Legends Mobile will have the traditional 19 squads battling with one another. The 60 player limit ensures that most (if not all) of the characters are controlled by real people. For comparison, battle royales with 100 players tend to have 25 to 50 bots playing.
The developers have also included the 7 original Apex characters. Regardless of which character you choose, each one will have 3 unique abilities – a passive, a basic, and an ultimate. As for maps, it currently has the World’s Edge map. Other maps like King’s Canyon and Olympus should be included after the beta testing round.
Great addition to the mobile battle royale genre
Apex Legends Mobile is a strong competitor against other battle royale games. While it is still in beta testing, it offers most of the features current Apex Legends players enjoy and then some. The third-person POV may throw off fans, but it’s to be expected as it is made for mobile. Another downside is it does not support cross-play and cross-progress, evening the playing field between newcomers and experienced players.
