Retrieve the eggs once more
Angry Birds Journey is a free puzzle mobile video game wherein you must recover precious artifacts from your longtime rivals. Developed by Rovio Entertainment Corporation, this 2D game is part of the Angry Birds video game series and features the classic slingshot action gameplay that made it popular. It brings classic playable characters, as well, and offers numerous fun levels that you can challenge—with different bonus goals to achieve to get extra rewards.
Same-old fun with new twists
Angry Birds is an action-based media franchise created by Rovio Entertainment. First released in 2009 with the casual puzzle game Angry Birds Classic, this series focuses on multi-colored birds that try to save their eggs from their enemies, the green-colored pigs. It was inspired by Crush the Castle and became highly popular and addicting with its fun gameplay mechanics, cute graphics, and hilarious hijinks. It spawned various spin-offs with different gameplay, as well.
In Angry Birds Journey, however, we return to the good ol’ slingshot fun that’s easy to pick up. You play as classic characters, as well as new ones, who must once again face off against the green pigs—this time, in order to steal back the stolen Egg Wonders. To start your siege against the enemy’s crudely-made tower, simply pull back on the character riding the slingshot and aim carefully. Each of them has different power-ups to offer you.
You need to aim and hit the pigs within a set number of moves and eventually move on to the next level. You also have to face off against different kinds of blocks and walls so it’s best to aim carefully with the current character—although some of their landing animations can be unsatisfactory compared to the original game. Aside from the pigs, you will encounter puzzles concerning Hatchlings and Fireflies in need of rescue.
Nothing beats the classic
All in all, Angry Birds Journey is a great throwback to the classic first games in this series. While it may feel a bit unpolished in terms of the explosive hitting animations that made Angry Birds Classic so good, it’s still a major improvement compared to the previous games that didn’t even feature this slingshot-based gameplay. If you want something like the first titles, this is a good option to try out.
