Side-scrolling action-adventure psychological horror game

Anglerfish is a single-player side-scrolling action game that requires a combination of skill, exploration, and patience. Offering a roguelike feel of other platforms, such as Dynacore, numerous challenges await those who do not mind a bit of gore from time to time.

Anglerfish offers a degree of non-linear gameplay due in part to the fact that levels and layouts change each time the user dies. Its deceptively cartoonish graphics are then complimented by decidedly dark undertones. Players can expect an unpredictable plot, as well as a unique way to save their progress.

A unique way to save games

Users are not able to save their progress manually. Instead, the game will automatically save after they die. Players then respawn within entirely different environments that are associated with their own distinct challenges and quests.

A strange backstory

The developers have created a backstory that is as intriguing as the gameplay itself. Players are required to descend deep into the core of Anglerfish in order to uncover several mysteries through manual exploration. Any enemies that are encountered will need to be quickly dispatched with the help of a shotgun.

Classic graphics

The graphics throughout Anglerfish are styled with a retro theme, mirroring those that are commonly associated with older DOS platforms, as well as classic 32-bit games. Therefore, nostalgia fans should be happy with the overall layout. In addition, new content is only released when a specific number of Steam reviews are obtained.

A random sense of entertainment

There are many surprises to be found throughout Anglerfish. The somewhat random nature of these elements is similar to other games, such as Hello Neighbor. Having said this, the fact that dying actually aids in the player’s progression is a rather innovative feature that is not often found within traditional side-scrolling horror platforms.
