Fantasy action RPG
Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms is a roleplaying game set in a fantasy world. Here, you play as one of the champions who will fight a demonic entity known as Alaloth. To do so, you will have to gather four artifacts of power from the four kingdoms of the world.
Alaloth is directly influenced by classic RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and Pillars of Eternity in design. However, its mechanics emulate the more chaotic and action-oriented combat of the likes of Diablo. It focuses heavily on its mechanics to give its basic setup and narrative more depth and complexity.
What is Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms?
Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms is an action RPG that takes players to a rich fantasy world resembling the darkest period of the Middle Ages. As mentioned, it has a rather basic narrative of players taking on the role of a warrior tasked to save the world. To do so, you will collect four artifacts of power before battling the demonic entity trying to rule the world.
With this basic setup, the game offers exciting features, including two gameplay mode choices: a single-player campaign and a competitive campaign. In the competitive mode, you will compete with three other players in collecting the artifacts. Besides having a rival, the game also challenges you timewise as you only have a limited amount of time to collect the artifacts. There is also a day/night cycle affecting your progress.
As mentioned, the mechanics resemble Diablo. Here, you have fighting areas, which act as dungeons. When you enter one, you will have limited resources, requiring you to use physical attacks with what you have to win. Thankfully, you can upgrade your weapons and skills as you clear levels. Moreover, you have 36 different skills you pick from, each of them themed to a class you see in an RPG.
Should you play it?
Overall, Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms is a solid experience for RPG fans. The game blends the classic CRPG exploration with Diablo-esque gameplay to make up for its rather basic narrative. Moreover, it made the gameplay more exciting by allowing you to play solo or compete with other players. However, it could use improvement in some areas, including better keyboard and mouse support and better UI.
