An action RPG with an elaborate control system
Unsouled is a 2D action RPG game that features an elaborate control scheme in the hopes of being less repetitive than more traditional games of this genre. The game is single-player only and features a combo system that the player will need to get good at to succeed.
Though the game tries to set itself apart from other games of its genre, similar games include Tunic and Hyper Light Drifter. The game features five distinct locations to traverse during the course of the story.
Intricate combat system
Unsouled puts the player in control of a skilled warrior who must fight their way through a number of locations, encountering many enemies, as well as destructible environment objects that react to the combat happening around them. The player must learn to string together complicated combinations in order to progress, as single attacks will fail to do the job correctly after the initial stages of the game.
A highly detailed pixel art world
The game world is rendered in a highly detailed pixel art style, from the environment to the entities within. The game also makes use of per-pixel lighting, allowing the developers to add another level of detail to the game. Each of the locations is visually distinct from the others.
A visually impressive but difficult game
While most would agree that Unsouled looks good, it is also a very difficult game. Players must master the various combinations and counterattacks to have any chance of succeeding, and this may be beyond the ability of some of the more casual players out there.
