Narrative adventure game
Afterparty is an adventure game by independent developer Night School Studio. In this two-dimensional branching narrative game, you play Milo and Lola. They are two lifelong friends and recent college graduates. Without warning, they find themselves in Hell and have no recollection of how they died. All they know is that Hell is an epicenter of neon lights and an endless supply of alcohol. They discover that if they beat Satan to a drinking game, they get to return to Earth. You must guide them through the blood and rum-soaked streets until their very last drink.
Cutting-edge narrative game
The Afterparty game centers around two young graduates who are on a mission to get out of Hell. The only way out, however, is to outdrink Satan himself. What ensues is a deeply human, cuttingly honest, and constantly funny coming-of-age story enriched by an impressive EDM score and vibrant graphics. As the player, you will move left and right along a two-dimensional plane. You will guide socially awkward characters through this social battleground.
This is where alcoholic drinks will come into play. To overcome their social anxiety and insecurities, you must serve Milo and Lola drinks at different bars. The beverages will allow you to select a line of dialogue that will progress the story. You will have four lines to choose from, namely hostile, hospitable, and a wild card. You must choose your reply before the other character finishes delivering his line.
By allowing you to have meaningful control of the dialogue, the game’s biting fun and emotionally charged writing appear to flow out of the characters. The result is a personal and intriguing look into the lives of the two friends. Overall, this indie game offers an endearing character-driven story with a smart rift on moral and societal ideas.
