Free point-and-click horror game
Lucid Dream is a point-and-click adventure game from indie developer Sizrit. It stars a young girl who finds herself trapped in a weird place as she dreams. Your goal is to solve the puzzles and help her escape.
Lucid Dream is a horror game. Therefore expect jump scares as you explore the map. In fact, it took inspiration from Asian horror films, such as The Ring and Grudge. However, the feeling of dread quickly wears thin as the jump scares do not actually build tension. Moreover, players will find the story, gameplay, and graphics subpar compared to other similar titles.
Wake up from your dream
Lucid Dream is an adventure game that will have you control a young protagonist during her dream state. As mentioned, the goal is to escape the dream by exploring the laboratory you are in and solving the puzzles. To do so, you will collect notes and items that gradually unravel the horrifying events within the lab. As it is point-and-click, you will interact with objects using a mouse click.
Unlike other puzzle-solving games, the game’s objectives are made clear throughout. Words or hints will appear onscreen every time you progress. There is also an easy access inventory at all times. Moreover, objects you can interact with are highlighted. Even more, the exit to the maze-like map is shown by shaded lines. With this, you won’t get stuck in a chapter. However, this also makes the game too easy.
There are seven achievements in the game, with one requiring a second playthrough to unlock. There will be jump scares that will distract you from achieving your goal. A ghost girl will even try to capture you, so expect chase scenes. However, these scary elements do not really build tension. Unless you are the type of person who panics easily.
Too easy and not really scary
All in all, Lucid Dream is a game you can play if you are looking for a time-waster. Both the story and the gameplay is typical of the horror genre. What’s more, the puzzles are not really that challenging, thanks to the hints and guides that the game provides. The creepy atmosphere also wears thin fast as each scare is built to only shock the players.
