Free turn-based RPG

COPPER ODYSSEY is a role-playing game where you go on an adventure to reclaim looted supplies from opponents and maintain peace. This turn-based game is created by an indie developer, CAM, who made the game in an RPG Maker with character and game design that reminds you of Gameboy Color.

The game starts off with a brief narrative to help you understand the enemies, the mess they’ve caused, and your role in fixing the problem. To move forward, you must interact with other characters and build crafts to better fight the four biggest enemies and win back the Pint Studio.

Pokemon-like battle style

COPPER ODYSSEY begins its story with a conflict. It’s finals week and the supplies in the studio were stolen by enemies. These printing supplies are necessary so students can keep working. You play as “The Monitor,” the main character who is responsible for maintaining peace and order. Luckily, you don’t have to face the looters alone. You can choose between three companions: Bad Girl, Mr. Woodcut, and Miss Gun.

The game doesn’t have a clear linear storyline you need to follow, so there’s no progression in terms of difficulty. However, as you explore the areas in the print building, you can find or buy items that you can use for Crafts, which are significantly better in making your attacks stronger. You can also level up by engaging in random battles, similar to the grass and cave areas of Pokemon.

Meanwhile, the turn-based battle system is underwhelming, although still quite similar to Pokemon. There are no stimulating animations and the enemies are just static on the battle screen. However, it’s quite interesting how the developer maintains the arts & crafts theme and replaced elemental weaknesses for real-life artists’ tools. The game also lets you customize the outfits of your characters, although the costumes are not per piece of clothing.

Lots of room for exploration

COPPER ODYSSEY is a great game where you can choose to take your time or speedrun the story. The gameplay isn’t complicated, but it’s also not too easy that it will bore its players. This game is a bit rough around the edges with the battle design being lackluster. However, it leaves a lot of room for exploration, with customizable outfits, crafts, and items that can make or break battles.
