Emotionally wrecking game

Pillar of Rust is a psychological adventure game developed by an independent game creator, Valerie Dusk. It is a walking simulator that will let you stroll through an emotionally wrecking journey of pain, sorrow, anger, and silence exhibited in concrete, rust, and bittersweet memories. Be warned, though. This game contains scenes that can trigger suicidal feelings, depression, and self-harm. If you are emotionally stable to play this, it is highly recommended for you to not download it.

Relevant to all

It is a highly relatable game for all, as at one point in your life, you’ve experienced losing someone close to your heart. Here, you will go through the post-breakup feeling of despair. You will take the role of a woman who made a promise to climb the tower together with her partner. However, he left and never came back. Now, contrary to what you expected, you will climb to the massive tower alone.

This indie horror game is unlike any other as you will feel like exploring the otherworld in a Silent Hill game, but there are no monsters to worry about or fight with as the battle comes within yourself. What makes this game even more appealing is its use of third-person POV. Its angles swing around as you walk deeper into the game. At times, your own thoughts will appear on the screen.

Each of the environments present in this psychological game manifests an impressive amount of emotion. The abstract geometry and moody color palettes accompanied by short bits of narration, deliver an all too relevant experience that was adequate to the pacing of the game. Technically speaking, it also contains solid movement and camera controls.

The most touching narrative experience

Pillar of Rust is a heartfelt game that can wreck everyone emotionally. Here, you will venture into the grieving process of the woman who lost a relationship, which became a big part of her life. This is a one-of-a-kind horror adventure without an actual monster to defeat as your enemy is yourself. You can definitely relate to every scene of this game. However, if you are vulnerable emotionally, you are not encouraged to play this game.
