A video streaming service by Paramount
Paramount+ is a free-to-download entertainment application for movies and TV shows developed by ViacomCBS Streaming. It’s a video streaming service that is being offered by Paramount Streaming. It features content from the CBS Entertainment Group, as well as various media properties owned by Paramount Global.
Just like with Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+ offers a library of different movies and shows across various genres to suit every viewer’s preference. It offers a free trial period for new users and comes in multiple subscription plans. It even has customizable bundles for a more tailored and personalized viewing experience.
A new player, sort of
Paramount+ is an up-and-comer in the online video streaming space, but its roots can be traced back years earlier. It started its life as CBS All Access back in 2014, offering the network’s media properties, as well as live sports and shows. Some re-organization and one rebranding later, and the service is reborn under a new name, with aspirations of global expansion to go with it.
Having been born from the merging of CBS Corporation and Viacom, this streaming platform features a content catalog spanning both entertainment entities. This means you will get plenty of classic shows and movies to choose from, as well as staples you’ve come to know and love. It’s also a great choice for watching with kids, with a strong selection coming from Nickelodeon.
So far, so good, but some things become apparent when you start comparing it to the competition, though. As it currently stands, there’s not enough original content to make it compelling for new users. The majority of its new content is still on the way. Its app experience isn’t faring any better either, being ridden with long loading times and frequent crashes. The road ahead will be long and arduous.
Banking on nostalgia
Paramount+ is a little bit of a surprise in an industry that’s already congested with various streaming services. What makes it stand out is the large library of classic shows and movies that it can tap into. However, that won’t be enough to have users wanting if it does not deliver on any new original content and fix the issues plaguing its mobile platforms. Only time will tell.
