Space craft themed endless runner
Race the Sun VR is an indie endless runner. Take control of a winged craft and race through an ever changing landscape of hazards towards the setting sun.
Last of a dying sun
In Race the Sun VR, players pilot a solar powered craft as they chase the last setting rays, aiming to survive as long as possible. The game is divided into regions of increasing difficulty requiring faster response times and better understanding of the environment. Great mechanical machines shift and pulse, creating pathways opening up for split seconds. This VR version changes little from the original 2013 release, offering a new first person view mode and some graphical options. While the base game is fun in short bursts, the VR port feels somewhat lazy. A lack of head tracking style movement means the craft is solely controlled via a standard controller, making the VR headset more of a smaller TV screen than an interactive device. Extra missions and challenges offer some replayability but little is left to be seen after a few hours.
Twist and turn
Race the Sun VR is a decent enough example of an endless runner. The overall aesthetic and sound design are good if plain, the controls are tight, and an attempt has been made at more content.
