A naval combat simulator
Modern Naval Warfare is a naval combat simulator that aims to provide a realistic and authentic representation of what naval combat is like. The player takes control of a United States’ submarine, the interior of which is modelled in significant detail. The combat takes place from within the submarine, so the player experiences it as a real submarine captain would.
This game follows in the footsteps of similar combat simulation games, such as World of Tanks, and Rise of Flight, with the obvious difference that this game is set under the ocean, rather than on land or in the sky.
A single highly detailed battle platform
The player experiences naval combat from the interior of a United States’ SSN-774 nuclear attack submarine. The interior of the submarine contains a lot of detail, including working control panels and screens. In much the same way a real submarine captain would, the player must control their submarine in a range of combat scenarios.
Enormous game world
The game world consists of over a million square kilometers of underwater environment and coastal regions, with the underwater environment complete with dynamic elements, such as sea life. The submarine also reacts to the ocean around it, such as thermal layers and bottom bounce. The game world also features dynamic weather and other ocean traffic.
Detailed but limited
Modern Naval Warfare is undoubtedly realistic, with the interior of the SSN-774 submarine being realised in impressive detail, but it is the only vehicle the player gets to control. There is a cooperative mode, however, allowing players to crew their submarine with other gamers. These positions are filled with AI crewmembers otherwise. There is also a VR mode.
