A health app for Spain

SpTH is a health app developed by Aena SME S.A that works as a companion software for the Spain Travel Health Program. In July 2020, the Spanish Government has made it mandatory for every passenger to the country to provide a completed health form before arrival. Using the app, the passengers can fill out the form and get the QR code that they need to present upon their arrival to any Spanish airport.

Take your QR code with you

SpTH is a health program that is part of the hygiene protocol that the Spanish government applies to all arrivals from other countries—regardless of their nationality and age. The form is mandatory, and each passenger must have a QR code before departing on their part. Users will need to provide their recent health and travel history before they arrive in the country. There is an option to complete the form using your desktop, but you would have to print out the PDF document that contains your QR code.

With the companion app, users can answer all the necessary form, whenever and wherever. Moreover, they do not have to print the code since they can just present their phone upon their arrival. When you use the app, you can get your QR code 48 hours before your date of appearance to Spain. You can also use the app to manage your code before you show up at the air terminal control.

The protocol was created to help the Spanish authorities track travelers who might be in close contact with a confirmed Covid-19 patient—and with the app, this process can be easier. However, users of the app may have a hard time comprehending the forms and information provided in the app due to bad translation. Spain is a non-English speaking country and some of the translation could use more work. On top of that, some Spanish airport requires the printed document and does not accept the QR code shown in the app.

The SpTH app is a big help in implementing the new health protocol in Spain. Using the app, the passengers can conveniently fill out the necessary forms that they need before their arrival. They also do not need to print the QR code that they need to present. However, the authorities should make sure that all Spanish airports accept the code shown on the passenger’s phone. Also, they should improve the way they present the information, especially for non-Spanish speaking travelers.
