Paid co-op rail building game

Unrailed! is a paid cooperative multiplayer railway building game developed by Daedalic Entertainment. In this action adventure game, you have to work together with your friends to build a train track that runs through endless worlds created by procedural generation. Not only that, but you have to protect your new railways from the elements and from enemies.

With gameplay like Minecraft on a procedurally generated world in Crossy Road graphics, Unrailed! is a game that will hook you and your squad with its seemingly simplistic premise. It’s a game that’s both visually appealing and addictive.

Railroads all day, every day

Unrailed! may seem simple at first, but the game requires smooth cooperation between all players. Not only do you need to build the railway for the train to run on, but you also need to gather the resources needed to build tracks and keep the train running. This makes the game more challenging than it appears, with the team sharing tasks between farming, maintenance, building railways, and warding off enemies.

Also, what makes the game increasingly challenging is that every “world” offers its own challenges that the players must learn to conquer. Warm worlds put your engine at risk of overheating while snowy worlds are unpassable unless you clear the piles of snow ahead of you. This variety alone makes the game addictive, with the curiosity of the next world keeping you on your toes.

However, the game tends to feel repetitive over time. Since the only task is to keep the train running, you will feel the fatigue from doing the same thing for hours on end. You can try to switch tasks but then you’ll find that the worlds are also starting to repeat, taking away the excitement and challenge from the unknown.

A fun team game

As a game, Unrailed! comes with a unique premise. It offers a restrictive take on the usual sandbox world experience–farming, fighting, building–but this time with a time limit in the form of a temperamental locomotive. It’s a fun experience with friends but after some time, the repetition of the world starts to weigh in and makes the experience less fun compared to your first time. Otherwise, still a must-try.
