Get ready to pick a side
After the incredible Deus Ex: Human Revolution, it is hard not to be excited at the prospect of returning to its dystopian-future universe for the latest game in the series, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
Like the last installment, the new title will also follow Adam Jensen – a man who has been upgraded with some of the most advanced augments available – as he is forced to pick between natural and augmented humans.
Society in turmoil
With events in the first game causing many augmented people to attack “naturals”, public opinion has become split about the benefits of the technology. Now, just two years on, these upgraded individuals are being persecuted by society, a situation that has caused extremists and terrorists to begin surfacing within the augment’s ranks.
Where Human Revolution dealt with Adam’s own emotional discomfort at his forced enhancements, Mankind Divided deals with society’s struggle to accept augmented humans into their midst. And as a member of a covert anti-terrorist group, Adam is right at the center of this, while also trying to decide whose side he is on.
Pick and upgrade your powers
His new role gives Adam access loads of new powers that you can pick between and upgrade over the course of the game. These include a gun that looks almost as customizable as Adam himself, and a nano-machine shell that can construct itself to protect him from harm.
While these changes have made for some exciting trailers – filled with cover-based shooting – it does look more action focused than Human Revolution. Hopefully, however, this was simply for show and Mankind Divided will offer the same amount of choice in how to deal with each situation as the previous game once it reaches shelves.
The future is closer than you think
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is being published by Square Enix and is currently scheduled for release on August 23rd 2016.
