A professional tool for digital artists

Procreate is a creative tool that lets you sketch and paint, anytime, anywhere. The application was initially only available on iPad. However, due to its popularity, it became available as Procreate Pocket for iPhone users. This version consists of a range of professional-level tools to help you create charcoal sketches, time-lapse paintings, expressive animations, original illustrations, and more.

What is Procreate?

In the simplest of terms, Procreate is a digital sketchbook designed for the 21st-century artist. Not only does it let you draw, paint, illustrate, and animate, but it also grants you access to features like QuickShape, Layer Export, Text Function, Liquify Dynamics, and Warp. The app also boasts a time-lapse function that lets users record every canvas move.

While Procreate is primarily designed for iPad users, its cut-down version is available for iPhone and goes by the name Procreate Pocket. This version has just received a major update to deliver a redesigned interface, supporting previously missing features. These additions have brought the iPhone version of the app up to par with its iPad counterpart.

Is Procreate easy for beginners?

Yes.

Procreate is a pocket-friendly app that users can check out anytime they have a stroke of inspiration. However, instead of the usual blank canvas, users can try out tools to make drawing, sketching, coloring, and animating a lot easier. This means that beginners, art students, and digital artists can harness the power of technology to render noteworthy artwork

What can I expect from Procreate’s interface?

As soon as you launch the Procreate app on your iPhone device, you come across the primary screen asking you to choose a canvas. You can either opt for a new canvas or use one created by other users. This page also lets you upload an image from a local or cloud folder. Selecting a brand new canvas gives you the option to edit the canvas size and take the resolution up to 8K

The latest version of the Procreate Pocket app for iPhone focuses on the canvas, which means that all the app’s many features remain hidden from the screen. You can use various touch controls to access your toolkit, which contains options to modify brushes, change colors and shapes, add text or calligraphy, mirror strokes, and more. The app also features a Procreate Drawing Assistant that helps in creating flawless strokes.

What features are included in Procreate Pocket?

The iPhone version of the popular Procreate app includes almost all the features that you might find in its iPad counterpart. The app gives users access to hundreds of free Procreate brushes, along with an option to create a custom brush or import an existing brush set. Moreover, artists can create identical brushstrokes, tweak the tiniest mistake, or perform a total undo.

Other noteworthy features added in Procreate Packet are QuickShape, Liquify Dynamic, Layer Export, Drawing Guide, and more. While the QuickShape function perfects your geometric shapes, the Liquify Dynamics feature lets you pinch, expand, or twirl your artwork. The app also lets you work in layers, use perspective to create different worlds, and warp or distort your work to make precise adjustments.

Is Procreate free?

The Procreate app for iPhone is a paid software program that professionals use to create beautiful designs and animations. However, unlike other similar artistic tools, the application is available as a one-time purchase and doesn’t come with a subscription model. Up until now, old users of the application have received all updates for free.

Are there any alternatives?

When it comes to features and functionalities, Procreate Pocket stands head-to-head with the original Procreate app. It’s a comprehensive tool that should be part of any artist’s palette.

That being said, there are many drawing tools that you might want to check out and compare before downloading Pocket. Some popular Procreate alternatives are ibis Paint X, Adobe Illustrator Draw, and Sketch Club.

Limited only by your imagination

With this app, you can make the most of the ready-to-use canvas for times when the creative juices are flowing.

Once launched, you can use any brush or pencil to start sketching. The drawing experience feels almost life-like, and that’s only possible because all the menus and features remain hidden from plain view.

Pulling up any function is simple. You just slide your fingers across the screen and get access to a vast array of features. All of these combined let you create high-resolution artwork, impressive enough to find its place in an art gallery.

Moreover, the app lets you record time-lapse videos so that you can showcase your work – from the first brushstroke to the last – anywhere you want!
