A modern RSS reader for PC

Fluent Reader is a free and open-source reference program for PC by an indie developer named Haoyuan Liu. It is an RSS feed reader application that features a user interface that was inspired by the Fluent Design System, a design language developed by Microsoft for its Windows OS.

Similar to other programs, such as Newsflow and Feedly, Fluent Reader is a desktop RSS reader that serves as your aggregator that collects all relevant news from your favorite sources from across the web into a sleek and modern UI that is easy to navigate and use, complete with a dark mode.

How do I use Fluent Reader?

Fluent Reader is a cross-platform RSS reader that stands out for its sleek and modern UI design inspired by Microsoft’s Fluent Design System. To add a new feed, click on the gear icon on the top-right corner. A new window will appear where you can either import an OPML feed or paste a URL in the text box to add a new source.

You can customize your feed, including its name, icon, and update frequency. News articles will be displayed as thumbnail cards, but you can change the view to something else. The hamburger icon at the top-left corner will expand your sidebar, listing all your feeds and groups. Opening an article will bring up RSS Full Text view, but can also be changed to anything you prefer.

Fluent Reader can also automate things for you like marking an article as already read or to star a post. Lastly, there are various keyboard shortcuts to navigate and use the reader faster. One odd thing about it that should be addressed is that articles are not fetched automatically by default so still have to set it to do so manually.

A modern and capable RSS reader

In conclusion, Fluent Reader is a capable and well-designed program and is well worth considering if you’re looking for a new RSS reader to try out. Its user interface looks nice and is easy-to-use, there are plenty of customization options available to you, and it will work across all your devices.
