‘Dukh Bhanjani Sahib’ is a collection of shabads or hymns, written by the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev. These hymns are intended to be used for spiritual purposes. The word dukh means a hardship or an illness. The word bhanjani means a destroyer or a crusher. Thus, the phrase dukh bhanjani means a destroyer of pain. 

All the shabads in this composition are meant to alleviate some form of pain or hardship that the members of the Sikh community are going through. This is the reason why all the shabads in this collection are meant to be used for spiritual purposes.
