A free handy plugin for KeePass
WebAutoType is a free system utility that allows you to make KeePass work much better. Developed by AlexVallat, this handy little tool is a plugin that is used with the KeePass Password Safe program, improving the AutoType feature by adding support for browser URLs. Take note, however, that this is not an autofill plugin—it simply enhances one of KeePass’ function’s performance to make your experience much smoother and seamless.
No need for manual typing
KeePass Password Safe is a free and open-source password manager software that helps in keeping track of your passwords and login credentials. With it, you can easily enter your passwords on any site as it stores usernames, passwords, and other information in an encrypted file. One of its features is called AutoType, which uses a global hotkey—Ctrl + Alt + A—that automatically fills in the necessary information required on the empty fields.
However, AutoType sometimes doesn’t work when the title of the window doesn’t match what’s on the database. Fortunately, KeePass supports various plugins that you can install to make things easier. One of these is WebAutoType, which is pretty much the fix to AutoType’s limitations. It allows auto-typing into web forms based on URLs and bases its findings on that instead of the window’s title. With this, the hotkey command can work properly.
In case the URL ever changes, this tool can still recognize it as long as the domain name is the same on KeePass’ database. You don’t have to constantly update your saved passwords. The plugin also has other options, such as being able to skip usernames for passwords. When saving a new password, the tool can even capture information data for one so you don’t have to manually type into the fields.
Supports the program well
All in all, WebAutoType is a great tool for making KeePass work its best with online forms. Not only does it support the AutoType hotkey, but it also allows the program to easily find matches with just the website URL. The only real downside to this is that it processes things just a bit slower compared to AutoType. Nevertheless, this is a highly recommended plugin for this password manager.
